Sydney NSW 23 to 29 Jan 2012

The Australian Iaido & Jodo Seminar & Championships bring together members of affiliated Clubs to take part in a week of training, followed by the Australian Championships and a senior level grading in both arts.

In 2012 the Seminar, the 21st Iaido Championships and 12th Jodo Championships will be held in Sydney, New South Wales.

Training is lead by Oda Katsuo Sensei, 8 Dan Hanshi (Iaido Technical Adviser) and Nagayama Kuniaki Sensei, 7 Dan Kyoshi (Jodo Technical Adviser), together with senior members of the local Iaido and Jodo community.

Australian Kendo Renmei

AKR logoThe Australian Kendo Renmei is the national governing body for Kendo, Seitei Iaido & Seitei Jodo.

The AKR and it's member Associations are affiliates of the International Kendo Federation (FIK), the world-wide federation of national Kendo, Seitei Iaido and Seitei Jodo organisations.

If you are interested in training in Iaido or Jodo please contact the Australian Kendo Renmei for more information. The AKR website has a list of State Associations that will be able to help you find a Club in your local area.

Training & Accommodation

All Seminar and Championship events will be held at the Brickpit Sports Stadium, in Sydney's North West, approximately 25km from the CBD.

Public Transport

Information on Sydney's extensive public transport network is avalable online from CityRail and Sydney Buses.

The nearest train station is Normanhurst on the Northern Line, located approximately 730M east of the Brickpit Stadium.

Nearby Accommodation

A number of apartments and hotels are located within a short drive of the Stadium.

Some suggestions include, the Waldorf Apartments in Pennant Hills and Hornsby (a 7 minute drive), the Ibis Hotel in Thornleigh (a 4 minutes drive or a long walk), the Quest Apartments and Stamford Hotel, both offering a range of locations 20 minutes away.

Online booking services such as Wotif are also a good option if you are looking for a place to stay.

Seminar & Grading Registration

How to Apply

Registration is open to all members of the Australian Kendo Renmei and International organisations affiliated with the All Japan Kendo Federation.

How to Register

Download and complete the Registration Form and Grading Application Form (if applicable), and send these along with payment to your State or International Coordinator (see below).

Please note, it is not possible to register direct with the Organising Committee.

Grading at the Event

The Grading will be held on Sunday 29th January 2012 for Dan Grade candidates.

  • Seitei Iaido: 1st Dan to 4th Dan.
  • Seitei Jodo: 1st Dan to 3rd Dan.

In addition a Kyu level grading will be held on Sunday afternoon. This will be managed by the NSW Kendo Association and is not part of the Australian Seminar & Championships. The Kyu grading is open to all suitably qualified Kyu grade members and normal Australian grading rules apply.
